Starship Flight Test: what actually changed

A quieter flight, a clearer heat-shield story, and why the next attempt matters more than the highlight reel.

The short version

The internet watched the fireball. The engineering read is narrower: did the tiles stay on, and did the flaps hold attitude through the hot part of entry?

What was new

  • A denser tile pattern on the most abused windward patches
  • Catch hardware rehearsed as a procedure, not a stunt
  • Less experimental plumbing on the engines that have already flown

What was not new

Entry heating is still unforgiving. Missing tiles on a stainless steel body are not automatically fatal — steel is the backup — but every missing tile is a factory problem dressed up as a flight problem.

A test that looks messy can still be a clean data point. A pretty flight that teaches nothing is the expensive one.
