Tesla’s purpose-built robotaxi moved from a small Austin fleet to nearly half of the company’s Texas robotaxi registry in one overnight filing, while paid hours only stretched by sixty minutes. SpaceX, which absorbed xAI earlier this year, opened early talks to borrow about $40 billion for Nvidia chips even with a large post-IPO cash pile. Neuralink published a practical decoder change for some trial participants. Starlink’s India licence is still not issued.
Cybercab registry in Texas nearly doubles to 319
Source: CyberCab.News / Eletric Vehicles, 9 Oct 2026, citing Texas DMV snapshots shared by Sawyer Merritt and Robotaxi Radar — cybercab.news, eletric-vehicles.com
Texas DMV automated-vehicle records showed 319 Cybercabs registered to Tesla’s robotaxi operation after a single batch of 150 on 8–9 October, up from 169 on 2 October. Model Y robotaxis on the same list stayed at 420, so the Texas total is 739 and the two-seat, no-wheel, no-pedal car is about 43 percent of it. Trackers say no new Model Ys have been added since 23 September; every addition since then has been a 2026 Cybercab with a Gigafactory Texas plant code. Community logs had matched plates on only part of the earlier fleet, and none of Thursday’s 150 had been spotted by Friday morning. Registration is not the same as cars in paid service. Philadelphia is not a robotaxi city, and a separate low-speed contact there this week tore the outer door skin off a gold Cybercab on validation duty, exposing a molded plastic panel, latch, wiring, and a side-impact bar, with no confirmed fault or injury report.
Why it matters: The registry is the first public count that shows Cybercab production outrunning the Model Y robotaxi conversion. Tesla has been telling investors it is holding back further Model Y fleet adds because it expects the dedicated car to scale. A registration batch this size is the operational evidence for that claim, with the limit that Texas paperwork does not prove unsupervised miles, uptime, or a new city geofence.

Caveat: Counts come from public DMV snapshots reposted by trackers, not a Tesla 8-K. Spotted, plated cars lag the registry.

Austin Robotaxi closes at 11 p.m., not overnight
Source: Not a Tesla App, 4 Oct 2026 — notateslaapp.com
Tesla’s Robotaxi account said Austin service now runs until 11 p.m., one hour past the 10 p.m. close set in August. The window is still about 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., not 24 hours. Autonomy lead Ashok Elluswamy had said in early September that round-the-clock service could follow once the next FSD v15-plan stack merges, on a “next month or so” line that pointed at October. That software has not shipped to the paid fleet. Paid robotaxi cities remain Austin, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. Tesla is taking an operational U.S. Cybercab, Optimus Gen 2, and supervised FSD test drives to the Paris Motor Show from 12–18 October; EU-wide FSD recognition is still expected in December, not this month.
Why it matters: Hours are the cleanest public measure of whether the unsupervised stack is trusted at night. A one-hour extension says Tesla is still gating darkness and late demand, even as the vehicle count jumps. Paris is a display and supervised-demo stop, not a European robotaxi launch.

Caveat: The 11 p.m. close is an Austin product post. Other cities were not confirmed on the same change.

SpaceX opens talks to borrow about $40 billion for Nvidia chips
Source: Bloomberg and Financial Times, reported 7 Oct 2026; Motley Fool recap 8 Oct 2026 — bloomberg.com, fool.com
SpaceX is in early talks with banks and asset managers to raise about $40 billion to buy Nvidia chips, people familiar with the plan told Bloomberg and the Financial Times. The shape described is roughly $10 billion of bank loans and $30 billion of investment-grade bonds, with Apollo expected to lead and Pimco among firms looking. Closing is aimed at 2027, and the talks can end without a deal. SpaceX ended June with about $100 billion in cash and securities after the June IPO, and about $39.5 billion of debt and finance leases. Five-year credit-default swaps widened to a post-listing high near 198 basis points after the report. The chips would feed the Colossus build that came over with xAI. On 25 September Musk said Colossus 2 then held 110,000 GB200 and 440,000 GB300 chips, with further 220,000-chip waves hoped for this autumn and late December. Those later waves are still a founder timetable, not a delivery notice this week.
Why it matters: Orbital and terrestrial compute is now a credit story inside the public SpaceX vehicle, not a private xAI side project. Borrowing on this scale, on top of cash already raised, is how the stack intends to keep Grok training and any orbital-compute thesis from waiting on operating cash flow. The limit is that nothing has been signed, and a 2027 close does not add GPUs this quarter.

Some Neuralink users calibrate weekly, not daily
Source: Inside BCI, 3 Oct 2026, on a Neuralink update dated 1 Oct 2026 — insidebci.com
Neuralink said participants have streamed more than 50,000 hours of unlabeled implant data in ordinary use, and that a pretrained decoder now lets some of them calibrate for about 10 minutes a week instead of about 10 minutes a day. The old routine averaged about 55 minutes a week. One participant, P15, reached 11.32 bits per second on the company’s cursor task, above a prior internal mark of 10.39; the median across participants is about 10. Bit rates are not a shared benchmark with other labs. The implant remains a clinical-trial device. No commercial approval, peer-reviewed paper, or new patient-count filing landed with the note.
Why it matters: Daily recalibration is the friction that keeps a brain cursor from feeling like a product. Cutting it for some users is a real capability change inside the trial, not a new surgery or a wider indication. It does not move Neuralink onto a store shelf.

Starlink still has no India licence
Source: Business Today, 8 Oct 2026, quoting Elon Musk on X, 7–8 Oct 2026 — businesstoday.in
Musk wrote that Starlink is licensed in more than 165 countries, has spent five years meeting Indian requirements, and still has no licence. He blamed unnamed “oligarchs” and asked whether a domestic telecom interest was blocking the file. Indian officials have said satellite applicants go through the same process. No new spectrum grant, gateway approval, or service start was announced. Starlink’s addressable map therefore still excludes India.
Why it matters: India is one of the last large markets where a licensed Starlink service would change both revenue and the political map of the constellation. A founder post is not a licence. Until the Department of Telecommunications issues one, the operational fact is unchanged: no service.
